Smith: Corrie is now "Fertilisation Street"
A baby boom on Coronation Street has led to the soap being nicknamed "Fertilisation Street", according to Samia Smith.

The 25-year-old actress, who plays widow Maria Connor, told the Daily Record that she is getting broody because she not only plays a pregnant character but is surrounded by new and expectant parents.

Alison King (Carla Connor), Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) and Wanda Opalinska (Vicki Dankowska) are all expecting, while Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) is a new dad and Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt) will become one in February.

Smith said: "We are calling it Fertilisation Street, not Coronation Street. I have to be careful where I sit. But I am broody especially as I have to wear a bump because Maria is pregnant."

The star, who has been married to husband Matthew for three years, said that she does not have time to have a baby at the moment.
