The 78-year-old former Fawlty Towers actor is rumoured to have been cast in the role of Norris Cole's (Malcolm Hebden) brother.
A spokesperson for the soap said: "I can confirm that Andrew Sachs has taken us up on the offer. He will be joining us later this year."
They added: "At this moment I cannot go into any further details."
Last month, Sachs - who played scatty Spanish waiter Manuel in the BBC comedy series - spoke of his intention to take Coronation Street producers up on their offer.
Next week, he will reportedly join the new Countdown team of Jeff Stelling and Rachel Riley in Dictionary Corner for their first show of 2009 on January 12.
