Corrie's Sophie to take chastity vow

Coronation Street teen Sophie Webster is about to take a vow of chastity in a storyline which will reportedly run for most of the year.

The youngster, played by Brooke Vincent, 16, agrees to the sex ban with the Street's newcomer Ben Richardson (Lucien Laviscount), reports The Sun.

The relationship starts when the 14-year-old schoolgirl attends a Bible group and meets the evangelical 16-year-old, leading to a joint agreement to remain chaste.

The ITV series editor Louise Sutton said: "The decision amongst teenagers to declare themselves chaste until marriage is hugely popular in the States. But it is also becoming more widespread in the UK."

Sophie's sex ban comes in stark contrast to the lifestyle of her older sister Rosie (Helen Flanagan), who will also feature in the plot.

Their mother Sally Webster (Sally Whittaker) is surprised by Sophie's choice and will tell her: "Well, I don’t know where you get that leaning from. I was boy-mad at your age and you don't get it from Rosie - she'd sooner give up breathing than boys."
