Second son for Corrie's Jane Danson

Coronation Street actress Jane Danson has given birth to her second baby boy, DS can confirm.

The 30-year-old - who plays Weatherfield's Leanne Battersby - gave birth in the early hours of this morning to Sam Alfie Robert, who weighed in at 7lbs 15oz.

Contrary to earlier reports claiming that she was 'rushed into hospital', Danson yesterday attended a pre-planned visit to the hospital during which her pregnancy was induced.

A spokesperson for the soap told DS: "Jane wasn't rushed to hospital. Instead, she attended an appointment to induce her pregnancy which had been arranged for a couple of weeks."

Danson and her co-star husband Robert Beck (Jimmy Dockerson) already have a two-year-old son called Harry Alexander Jack, who was born in July 2006.

Alison King (Carla Gordon), Jack P Shepherd (David Platt) and Wanda Opalinska (Vicki Dankowska) have also become parents within the past two weeks.
