Tina O'Brien has admitted that she is saddened by the recent tragedies suffered by her former Coronation Street co-stars Kym Marsh and Bill Roache.

The actress, who played Sarah Platt on the ITV1 soap, confirmed that she was shocked to hear about the sad loss of Marsh's (Michelle Connor) premature son Archie last month.

Speaking to The Mirror, she explained: "It's so sad. Being a mum myself I can't imagine how that must feel. I know everyone at Coronation Street is being very supportive and lovely to her."

The show's cast and crew were also left reeling following the sudden death of Roache's (Ken Barlow) wife Sara on February 8.

O'Brien added: "Bill's wife was a lovely woman. I've seen him since and I said how sorry I was and he told me how lovely everyone had been to him."

Sally Whittaker, who plays Sally Webster on the programme, recently confirmed that the cast have "turned a corner" and are looking to the future.
