Corrie actor embraces older fanbase
Coronation Street star Craig Kelly has revealed that his character is a hit with OAPs.

The former Queer As Folk actor confirmed that his fanbase has changed since he accepted the role of Underworld boss Luke Strong on the ITV1 soap.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, he explained: "When I was in Queer As Folk, although my character was gay, two thirds of my fanmail was from women. Probably because my character was sweet and loveable, and a bit sexy.

"Now, it's mostly from women in their 70s and 80s. Maybe they want to mother me. I have a very dedicated fan called Elsie, who is 91."

Kelly also admitted that he now gets stopped on the street more often and still finds the public attention strange.

He said: "I've been shouted at a lot. People say, 'Oi! Knicker man!' or 'Oi. You're the knicker boss!' It doesn't make much sense. I suppose if you're in someone's living room five times a week, they must feel they know you in some way." Get the Inside Soap magazine on your iPhone or iPad
