Coronation Street star Simon Gregson rushed to hospital yesterday after his partner went into early labour.

Gregson's fiancée Emma Gleave was not expecting to give birth for eight weeks and the soap star was reportedly anxious on his way to see her.

A source told The Sun: "Simon is hoping everything's going to be okay. Emma's about six to eight weeks early and doctors will want to delay the birth as long as possible."

Gregson, who has played Steve McDonald in the ITV1 soap since 1989, has one son with Gleave, 22-month-old Alfie.

Coronation Street bosses apparently rewrote scenes to allow the actor to be at his girlfriend's side.
