Soap Insight: Corrie's Leanne and Peter reunite?
Coronation Street's Leanne Battersby - played by Jane Danson - returned to the cobbles at the end of last week and as she attempts to settle back into Weatherfield life, bookie Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) has her firmly in his sights.

In the hope of rekindling their romance, Peter invited Leanne for a meal in the flat above the bookies. There, he admitted that he had seen a couple of women while she was in Leeds but neglected to reveal their names. Peter and Leanne ultimately fell into a passionate embrace but little Simon's (Alex Bain) subsequent mention of Michelle (Kym Marsh) set Leanne's mind into overdrive.

Danson says: "Peter says [that the women he slept with while she was away] were no-one Leanne knows, so when Simon lets slip about Michelle, Leanne sees it as another betrayal. In her mind, he's not been completely honest so how can they start afresh?"

It's not long, though, before Leanne finally discovers the truth from Michelle herself. Danson explains: "Leanne tricks Michelle into telling her after Simon intimates that something went on. She traps her into a confession and a row then ensues with Peter and they're back to square one for a few days."

She goes on: "It would bother Leanne [even if it hadn't have been Michelle] because Leanne has such strong feelings for Peter. But she's been in and out of friendship with Michelle over the years and they've had their run-ins. Obviously she was Liam and Paul's brother, which is something that caused tension, but they've been out with Maria and Carla on a few girlie nights. But it's more the fact that she feels that Peter has lied to her again and made her look a bit of a fool on her own doorstep."

Leanne furiously ends her relationship with Peter only hours after they resolved their differences. With that, Peter tries to apologise profusely, but Leanne's initially unconvinced of his intentions.

"Peter apologises but Leanne tells him that everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie," says Danson. "But he tries again, looks at her with those big brown eyes and tells her how sorry he is. Leanne then has to make the decision whether to go back to Leeds or give it another go with Peter."

She adds: "It's touch and go. Will they finally sort things out and get on with it or is this it for good?"

With their rocky past, some would argue that Peter and Leanne are destined for other loves, while others would suggest that given time, the pair would make a perfect couple. Danson insists that despite Leanne being a "loose cannon", they're made for each other. She reasons: "They've both made mistakes and they've both got issues which gives them an understanding. They're both quite lonely souls and I think they need each other. Leanne's never had stability and responsibility and she enjoyed that with Peter and Simon. She'll always be a bit of a loose canon but I think Peter is what she wants.

"I hope they can save each other. They're both as flawed as each other, I think they're made for each other really. I'd like to see them together for a while living as a family."

And what of Simon? Would Leanne be prepared to take the cheeky chappy on? Danson adds: "She's taken on a motherly role with Simon in the past and she really cares about him. She wants to make sure her relationship with Peter is right before they fall back into it as she wouldn't want it to hurt Simon. She sees him potentially as her own."
