Cotton: 'Ryan Thomas enjoyed gay scenes'

Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton has claimed that his co-star Ryan Thomas embraced his recent gay-themed storylines.

Viewers have seen Thomas's character Jason Grimshaw unwittingly playing for a gay football team over the summer after lies told by Cotton's camp alter ego Sean Tully span out of control.

Builder Jason went on to secure an unexpected victory in a Mr Gay Weatherfield contest. After hearing the news, he pulled off his shirt in celebration while on a night out with his team-mates.

Cotton told This Morning: "When [Ryan] did the gay scenes he quite enjoyed it in the end I think!

"But it was mortifying filming it - it was like watching my real brother making a fool of himself and every time we did a take I'd go bright red.

"I couldn't watch it and then when he started taking his top off and everyone was jeering, I was genuinely mortified! But it was fun and a lovely story to film."

Earlier this month, Thomas admitted that he is keen to cut down on his shirtless scenes.
