The actor, who plays Ryan Connor in the ITV soap, said that members of the opposite sex should not be so hung up about their appearances, Bang Media reports.
He stated: "I hate it when girls stress about their weight. It's a pet peeve of mine. I don't like it when you're talking to a girl and she says, 'I'm fat'. I always try to reassure the girl and convince her otherwise."
The 17-year-old also claimed it is a myth that boys are put off by girls who make the first move.
"I prefer girls to ask me out actually. I'm always a bit unsure if a girl likes me, so I find it reassuring if she asks me out," Thompson explained.
He added: "And while I'm on the subject, personality is more important than looks. You see good-looking girls all over the place, but if I have real feelings for a girl, it's always because I like her as a person."
