POTD: Tony tries to kill Roy in Corrie

Published Monday, Nov 16 2009, 15:50 GMT | By Kris Green
Coronation Street villain Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien) resorts to desperate measures to maintain his murderous secret during tonight's episodes as he attempts to kill his deathbed confidante Roy Cropper.

Having reported Tony to the police, Roy (David Neilson) and Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) return to the Street under the impression that the Underworld boss has been detained. Tony, however, is at large and after a barrage of questions from Maria (Samia Smith) over Roy's accusations, Tony heads to the Croppers' and lets himself in with the keys he stole.

There, he grabs a knife and hears Hayley talking to Roy about the bat watch by the canal. Roy leaves the café, leaving Hayley locked inside with the Street's resident murderer.

It's not long before Tony heads to the canal and attempts to silence Roy once and for all. On the canal bank, Roy pleads, "I can't swim", to which Tony bluntly responds "Good" and pushes him in.

In an interview with DS, Neilson said: "Tony walks away and leaves Roy to flounder and actually drown because he goes right to the bottom. He watches Roy disappear from the bridge. He goes very calm and walks away. To Tony, it's the end of his problems."

Coronation Street airs tonight at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV1.
