John Thomson has used Twitter to tell his fans that he is still a member of the Coronation Street cast.

The actor, who plays Weatherfield's Jesse Chadwick, reportedly felt compelled to discuss his career on the micro blogging site amid rumours that he had been axed.

The Daily Star Sunday claims that the comic tweeted: "Still in Corrie in case you wondered, no idea what's going to happen. All I know is I am there for light relief."

Thomson joined the Manchester soap in 2008 as down-on-his-luck children's entertainer Chadwick.

"It is a very unusual move to announce you are still in Corrie in this way but John knows his fans demand answers," a source said.
