Former Coronation Street star Angela Griffin has joked that her character Fiona Middleton could come face-to-face with ex-lover Steve McDonald for the soap's 50th anniversary celebrations.

The actress told What's On TV that she recently had a light-hearted discussion over the idea with one of the show's writers while on a night out.

Griffin commented: "Well, it's the 50th anniversary and I was out with one of the writers who'd had a few drinks and he did mention he was imagining a scene where a taxi cab opens and every single ex-girlfriend of Steve McDonald came out!

"So me, Suranne [Jones], Chloe Newsome, the whole lot. But I think he might have just had a few pints too many!"

Griffin played hairdresser Fiona on the ITV1 show between 1993 and 1998. She has since appeared in Cutting It and Waterloo Road.

Last year, the star said that she would "love" to return to her Coronation Street role in the future.
