The actress announced in November that she was to bow out as Kelly Crabtree and the character will be seen for the final time this Friday.
Reflecting on her choice to leave Weatherfield, Dorgu told Loose Women: "It was a good decision."
She continued: "It's actually a great place to work, but I think in terms of the character, I wasn't doing as much as I wanted to and she wasn't developing.
"I wasn't getting what I wanted, even though the show is a great show. I just thought there are other things that I want to do and I can't do them while I'm being Kelly Crabtree, which is unfortunate because she's great - I loved her."
Dorgu also revealed that she would love to do more television and is interested in performing in a programme with a smaller cast.
The soap star made her first appearance as Underworld machinist Kelly in September 2004.
