Cilla Black denies Corrie rumours

Cilla Black has denied claims that she was hoping for a cameo appearance in Coronation Street.

Earlier this week, a tabloid reported that the Liverpudlian singer had been approached by the show's producers and was likely to accept a small part.

At the time, Black was quoted as saying: "It would be nice to do a cameo... If the role was right, I would do a one-off thing."

However, the former Blind Date host has now insisted that she has no desire to tread the cobbles because she is not interested in acting projects.

Speaking to Metro about the rumoured Corrie appearance, Black remarked: "Not me, chuck. After all, I am a singer, not an actress."

The soap's bosses have also dismissed the speculation, arguing that Black's high profile makes it "difficult to see how she could appear in Coronation Street as a different character".
