The 22-year-old actor has already been in the ITV1 drama for a decade after taking over from Thomas Ormson in the role of David Platt.
Since the recast took place in 2000, David has been at the centre of several high-profile storylines and is currently standing by mum Gail (Helen Worth) as she faces accusations of murder.
Speaking to The Mirror about his ten years at Corrie, Shepherd commented: "I've been David Platt almost as long as I've been Jack Shepherd, which is weird! But I've enjoyed it - it doesn't feel like a decade."
Of his alter ego, he continued: "David's an idiot! I wouldn't be his friend. I wouldn't give him the time of day.
"But I love playing him and I don't see why I couldn't be here in another ten years. By then he could own the Rovers or Underworld, or be an out-and-out thug. He could go either way."
In real life, Shepherd lives with girlfriend Lauren Shippey and their young daughter Nyla.
