The actress was back on the cobbles yesterday to film her character's comeback scenes, just days after having her final bout of radiotherapy.
Whittaker was diagnosed with her illness late last year, having just heard that her Weatherfield alter ego Sally Webster was to fight the same disease.
Speaking to The Sun about her soap return, the 46-year-old commented: "I got on set at 9.30am and was really nervous as it had been months since I'd set foot here. But when I opened the door to my dressing room there were flowers, cards and presents everywhere."
Of her first scenes, which are due to air in July, she continued: "They threw me a party. It's Sally's birthday so the family celebrate in the garden. It felt like a welcome back party, which I suppose it was really."
Whittaker added that she is now keen to return to normality for the sake of her children Phoebe, 15, Sam, 13, and Hattie, 6.
She said: "My children are desperate to have their life back to what it was before. I told them at the beginning that everything would be fine. Going back to Corrie will show them that once and for all. I've beaten cancer and so has Sally Webster. It's time to move on."
