The actress is believed to have recently renewed her deal with the Weatherfield soap following a meeting with her new boss Phil Collinson.
Speaking to What's On TV about her future with the show, Flanagan commented: "I'm so excited. We've just got a new producer and he's absolutely lovely. I'm really excited about the storylines for my character.
"I can't let on, but I think you'll see a change for my character. I'm really happy because she's going to become a lot more nicer and hopefully the audience will like her better, so that should be good."
Flanagan said that she hopes the new plots will put a stop to the insults she sometimes receives on the street due to her alter ego's bitchy side.
Asked how she copes with the heckling, she replied: "I'm quite sensitive really but I try not to take it to heart. At the end of the day, I'm playing a character."
Reports suggest that Flanagan's new Coronation Street contract keeps her with the soap for another 12 months.
