Alison King has revealed that an upcoming Coronation Street factory fire stunt left her injured.

The actress, who plays Carla Connor, is under siege by the murderous Tony Gordon - played by Gray O'Brien - in next week's storyline.

She told The Mirror: "It was frightening. I've not felt that scared before. I've done plenty of action films, but I've never worked with flames and smoke before. I've got a bit of a phobia about fire now.

"Obviously they made sure it was safe. But it was a closed-in set. It's quite scary how hot it gets, how near the flames are and how quickly the fire takes hold."

King continued: "The scenes are very physical and when you're filming in the middle of all that smoke and heat, it takes its toll and you do end up a bit breathless.

"We had to be really careful and there were firefighters on stand-by, as well as a nurse who constantly checked that our oxygen levels were okay. During some scenes, my levels got a bit low so I had oxygen a couple of times."

Revealing her injuries, the star added: "I was covered in bruises, all over both legs and arms, everywhere. I had padding, but it was so physical.

"I was falling on the floor and fighting and at one point I had to dive on the floor to try to get the gun. There was only one bit where they used a stunt double because they wouldn't actually allow me to jump off a balcony myself."
