Corrie's Samia Smith: 'Maria hates Tony'

By
Coronation Street actress Samia Smith insists that her character Maria Connor "feels nothing but hatred" for former screen lover Tony Gordon.

Next week, Maria returns to the cobbles in order to resolve business dealings with Carla (Alison King) and finalise the sale of her house to Dev and Sunita.

While home, however, she becomes embroiled in Tony's dramatic return to Weatherfield and finds herself trapped in Underworld as a hostage.

Speaking of Maria and Tony's relationship, Smith said: "I think Maria genuinely loved Tony. I don't think she feels anything but hatred for him now. She's quite sad thinking about what might have been with him because she actually thought she'd got it all sussed - that she was going to be with him and he was going to be a father to Liam. Her world ended when she found out that he'd murdered her husband."

Oh her return, she added: "I kind of guessed that something would have to happen because I had to leave quite quickly because I was due to give birth any second before I left! I knew it would be something quite big that would bring her back at the same time as Tony."
