James Fleet has jokingly criticised Coronation Street bosses for an "unrealistic" element of soap's ongoing Siege Week storyline.

The actor, who guest stars all this week as Tony Gordon's henchman, claimed that his alter ego would never accept £2,000 to spring his former cellmate out of prison.

Speaking to The Mirror, he quipped: "I tried telling them it wasn't enough - it's got to be a five-figure sum to be realistic. Maybe it's just that times are hard for everyone at the moment - even crooks, it seems, are having their pay cut!"

Fleet had previously compared filming the special plot to being on a "movie set".
