Corrie's Vera to return as a ghost?

Coronation Street favourite Vera Duckworth is to make a return to the soap as a ghost later this year, a report has claimed.

The deceased character's spirit will appear before her beloved husband Jack in a special storyline to mark the show's 50th anniversary in December, according to The Sun.

Vera's rumoured return will allegedly come just before Bill Tarmey bows out as Jack after three decades in the role.

A Weatherfield source told the newspaper: "The scriptwriters have been trying to come up with a fitting end for Jack and the ghost idea has become a big hit among the crew."

Vera and Jack established themselves as one of Coronation Street's most popular double acts during their long stint as a screen couple. Viewers will reportedly see the pair chatting for a final time if the rumoured storyline goes ahead.

The insider added: "It would be the most dramatic return from the grave since Bobby came out of the shower in Dallas."

Vera passed away peacefully in January 2008 following actress Liz Dawn's decision to quit the part due to ill health.
