Vicky Entwistle has dismissed reports that she quit Coronation Street due to rows with the soap's new producer Phil Collinson.

The actress announced on Monday that she is bowing out from her role as Janice Battersby after 14 years with the ITV1 show.

Yesterday, it was suggested that Entwistle's decision had been influenced by disputes with Collinson over her character and future storylines.

However, responding to the rumours, Entwistle told The Sun: "There was no bust-up. Phil is lovely. I wanted to shake off a character I've played for 14 years."

It is thought that the 41-year-old had made her choice before Collinson took office as the replacement for predecessor Kim Crowther earlier this year.

Entwistle is expected to pursue new acting projects after making her departure from the programme.
