Simon Gregson attacker sentenced

A man who assaulted Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson has been given a 12-month conditional discharge.

Gregson - who stars as Steve McDonald in the ITV soap - was punched in the face by Reece Barns on May 29, BBC News reports.

Barnes pleaded guilty to the attack, which reportedly began when Gregson sat in an empty seat which was being saved for Barnes's friend. Witnesses said that the 18-year-old threw the first punch and was removed once the pair had been separated.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and banned from the Wheelhouse Club for six months.

Gregson will marry his long-term partner Emma Gleave in November.
