Coronation Street star Linus Roache has revealed that he wants his storyline to educate those with bigoted views of homosexuality.

The actor - son of fellow Weatherfield star William Roache - plays Ken Barlow's long-lost son Lawrence, who is struggling to accept his own son James's sexuality.

According to PA, he said: "There are a lot of people that hold these views. This is holding the mirror up to the way things are and you can see those views for what they are. Hopefully it will educate some people out of it.

"It's got all the perspectives in the story. I play a particular function and in the end I'm the one who loses out because of my bigotry."

Linus Roache's half-brother James plays the part of his son in the ITV1 soap.
