Coronation Street's Steve Huison and Debbie Rush have discussed their feelings on their current war plot.
Their on-screen characters Eddie and Anna Windass are preparing to say goodbye to son Gary as he goes to war in Afghanistan.
Speaking to DS at the Inside Soap Awards, Rush said: "Hopefully we give the story a lot of justice and show what a lot of mums, dads and families are really feeling for the lads and girls that are going out there."
She added: "I know that the Windasses are normally quite funny and they are the family that you like to laugh at, but this is something that is really quite serious. And we are hoping, fingers crossed, that we kind of reach out to the nation at a time when a lot of really bad things are happening."
