Coronation Street's Bill Tarmey has revealed how he and former on-screen wife Liz Dawn used to remember their scripts.

In his new autobiography, the Jack Duckworth actor explained that he and Dawn (Vera Duckworth) would stick notes onto props.

"We found a neat way to be reminded of our dialogue was to stick little notes on the props," he said. "As we talked over breakfast, there'd be a piece of paper stuck to the cornflakes box or the sugar bowl."

He continued: "The funniest time was during a scene in which Terry (Nigel Pivaro) was checking on a chicken in the oven. Nigel corpsed with laughter when he opened the oven door.

"He pointed to Liz and said, 'She's only put a crib sheet on the chicken's arse'."

He added: "The studio was in fits."

Tarmey recently filmed his final scenes for the ITV soap.
