Speaking to The Hour ahead of celebrating the Weatherfield drama's 50th anniversary next week, Warren insisted that he did not like to think that his creation had changed TV history.
"If I think that way, I would start thinking I was something special," he confessed. "That way does not lie success."
He continued: "As far as I'm concerned, yes it's wonderful to get great appreciative newspaper reviews and things like that, but it's when the checkout woman at Tesco says, ‘Ooh it was good last night', that's what matters."
Corrie's 50th anniversary celebrations will include a live episode on its official birthday, Thursday December 9.
