In yesterday's double bill of the show, fans saw Binns's character Molly and her baby son Jack end up trapped under rubble after a tram crashed into the Corner Shop while they were inside.
Speaking on ITV2's Coronation Street Uncovered: Live last night, Cotton confirmed that Molly will be one of the characters who take centre stage in Thursday night's special 50th anniversary broadcast.
He explained: "I will tell you that in the live episode, which is on Thursday, I think some of the most brilliant stuff you'll ever see from a dramatic performance point of view will come from Vicky Binns, who plays Molly, and somebody else."
The actor - who plays Sean Tully - added that the second character might be a person who enters the destroyed shop in an attempt to save Molly and Jack.
Meanwhile, speaking later in an online webchat on Corrie's official site, Cotton teased: "Wait until you see the live episode - they are some of the most gripping scenes I have ever read!"
Coronation Street's hour-long live episode airs from 8pm on Thursday.
