Coronation Street scriptwriter Damon Rochefort has revealed that there are many "emotional" scenes in store in this week's episodes.

Weatherfield's residents are about to start rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of the Joinery bar explosion and devastating tram crash.

Rochefort penned tonight's double bill of the ITV1 show, which focuses on the day after the tragedy.

Speaking to the South Wales Echo, Rochefort commented: "If you think, last Monday was the tram crash [and] tonight will be the first time that we see sunlight since the accident. Ken comes around the corner and looks around."

He continued: "The tram crash script was not a stunt. It was more about driving a tram through the characters' lives… This week is really emotional because of all the devastation that has been done. People are trying to piece their lives together."

Rochefort has also written Coronation Street's New Year's Eve episode, in which returnee Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) will take centre stage.

He said: "I can't tell you much but something very dramatic happens to Tracy."
