Ryan Thomas has named Coronation Street's recent live episode as his best experience on the soap to date.

The actor's character Jason Grimshaw was one of several characters who appeared in the special 50th anniversary broadcast, which focused on the aftermath of Weatherfield's tram crash disaster.

Thomas told the Whitehaven News: "Doing the live episode was the best moment - I have never done anything like that before. Nothing will top it. I am very proud to be in Coronation Street.

"It has been a great place to be. The cast, the crew, it is a real team effort. For the live episode, we rehearsed over and over again until we really just wanted to go for it. And then, when they said five minutes to go, everyone was nervous. Altogether about 20 million people watched it."

The star - thought to have recently signed a new 12-month contract with Corrie - added: "After this week, I couldn't see myself anywhere else. The people that I work with are like my second family."

Corrie's live transmission featured the tragic death of regular character Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns).
