Betty Driver has revealed that she would like her Coronation Street character Betty Williams to have a proper conversation with Ken Barlow.

In an interview with the TV Times, Driver noted that the Rovers barmaid has had almost nothing to do with Bill Roache's long-standing character during her entire history on the show.

The actress made her Corrie debut back in 1969, while Roache has appeared in the soap since the very first episode in 1960.

Driver commented: "Do you know, I've never done a scene with Bill Roache in 41 years? Ken Barlow has only ever come into The Rovers and asked me for a pint.

"And I love Bill. Maybe it's time they put us in a scene together."

A special documentary honouring Driver's career will air on ITV1 next week.
