Speaking to What's On TV about the ongoing plot, the actor gave Peter's take on the affair between screen wife Leanne (Jane Danson) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).
"It would be very very difficult for him," Gascoyne said. "He loves Leanne and it would break his heart. He's really happy with his life with her at the moment."
Asked if he thought Peter could forgive his wife, he added: "I think it's 50/50. Peter fancies Carla, yet he resisted her because he loves Leanne. He'll be bitterly disappointed that Leanne couldn't do the same."
The couple are set to renew their vows on Valentine's Day in the ITV soap.
