Coronation Street star Antony Cotton has denied claims that the soap will be screening a gay wedding on the same day that Prince William and Kate Middleton marry.

Yesterday, a newspaper reported that Cotton's character Sean Tully would tie the knot with ex partner Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou) on April 29 - the date of the royal wedding.

However, in a message to the Lesbian & Gay Foundation on Twitter, Cotton confirmed: "@lgfoundation Not true! I don't know why - they just make it up."

A civil partnership for Sean and Marcus has been rumoured for some time but has never been officially announced.

However, show bosses have previously confirmed that Marcus will be back on screen later this year and rekindle his romance with Sean shortly afterwards.

EastEnders couple Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) were also recently tipped to wed on the same day as William and Kate. However, Walford bosses have insisted that there is no truth in the claims.
