Beverley Callard has admitted that she is eager to see what happens to the Rovers Return after her Coronation Street character Liz McDonald leaves the cobbles.

The pub's landlady is back on screen next week but her return to Weatherfield will prove short-lived as she is expected to depart for a new life in Spain in April.

Although Liz's son Steve (Simon Gregson) is staying in the area, his future at the business is currently uncertain amid his financial problems.

Discussing The Rovers' future, Callard told Inside Soap: "I'm interested to see who'll rescue the pub if Steve has to sell up. It's tough for publicans now so it won't be an easy ride for anyone."

She continued: "Who knows, Tracy could end up getting the pub - but she'd have no customers and it wouldn't last for long! I'm not sure any of the current cobbles' locals would be interested in buying it either.

"Maybe someone new could arrive to try to make a go of things. Steve still owns the pub right now though, so it depends if he's willing to hand over the reins or persevere."

Callard announced her decision to leave Coronation Street last October.
