Tommy started off on bad terms with Kevin (Michael Le Vell) as he returned to the cobbles in last night's double bill, annoying the mechanic with his cocky behaviour and by trying to flirt with Sophie and Sian.
In an interview with Corrie's official website, Fountain confirmed that the ill-feeling between the pair will continue because Tommy is to be a loyal friend to his new housemate Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).
The actor explained: "I think Tyrone is the closest thing to family that Tommy has got on the street, so he does get on with Tyrone and he tries to stick up for him a few times against Kevin."
Tyrone has refused to forgive Kevin for his affair with his late wife Molly, which saw the cheating pair have a child together.
Discussing his character's straight-talking nature, Fountain added: "Tommy doesn't take no funny business. He'll say it how it is, and basically that's the way he is."
Fountain's casting in Coronation Street was announced in November.
