The much-loved Coronation Street actress was admitted to an undisclosed Greater Manchester hospital last week with suspected pneumonia.
Driver, who has played Rovers Return barmaid Betty Williams for 42 years, was said to be "in good spirits" as she received treatment. A report had claimed that she could have been discharged before her birthday.
According to The Sun, cast and crew are planning to mark the occasion as Driver remains under observation in hospital.
"91 is a ripe old age and it is pretty miserable to have to spend it in hospital," a source on the Manchester serial told the paper. "We're getting Betty a cake and some cards so she doesn't feel so fed up."
The actress celebrated her long showbiz career in an ITV1 special earlier this year.
