Corrie's Sam Aston: 'I won't be like Chesney'

Coronation Street star Sam Aston has said that he won't follow in the footsteps of his character by becoming a teenage father.

Chesney Brown and his girlfriend Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) are set to become parents in the Manchester serial's ongoing storyline.

However, the 17-year-old told the Lancashire Telegraph that he himself has no plans to settle down and start a family.

"I'd be really shocked if I found myself in Chesney's shoes," he said. "I'm an uncle to seven nieces and nephews but I couldn't handle the responsibility of parenthood.

"Chesney's normally a sensible lad and I'm sure he'll try his best to be a good dad but they could struggle once the baby is born and reality kicks in."

Aston, who is the youngest of nine children, added: "Even in ten years' time I can't see myself married with children. I'm taking everything slowly, one step at a time.

"I'm quite happy spending time with my mates, walking my dog Buddy, playing golf and going to the gym."
