Last week, Graeme Proctor decided to dump girlfriend Tina (Michelle Keegan) in favour of his new partner, despite the fact that marrying Xin (Elizabeth Tan) was originally just a scam to keep her in the country.
Graeme leaves Weatherfield in tonight's double bill of the soap as the dramatic fallout of his romantic choice continues.
Discussing the viewer reaction to the plot, Gazey told Loose Women today: "There's kind of a divided camp on it really, because some people quite like Xin and Graeme now - [although] it took a while to warm up. But a lot of people do like Tina and Graeme.
"I think the thing with Xin is that she's a little bit kooky, she's a bit more on Graeme's wavelength and she gets his silliness and his eccentricities."
Speaking about the fans who have expressed their displeasure over Graeme's betrayal, he said: "I've been getting loads of abuse and I'm like, 'Guys, it's not The Only Way Is Weatherfield'! Is it real, is it not? No, it's written."
Gazey announced his decision to leave Coronation Street at the beginning of the year.
