Coronation Street's Michelle Keegan has admitted that she wants her character Tina McIntyre to remain single.

The actress, who recently became engaged to The Wanted singer Max George, told The Sun that the Rovers Return barmaid should not begin dating again.

Tina split from boyfriend Graeme Proctor last month, as he departed the Street with wife Xin (Elizabeth Tan).

"I wish they would leave Tina single for a while," Keegan said. "I think she needs a bit of time without a boyfriend, but that's not what's happening, as she's got a new fella on the way.

"She always goes from one to the other. I'm hoping that soon Tina gets some time without a man and carries on being good mates with Steve McDonald, as I love Tina and Steve's scenes together."

The 24-year-old also insisted that her fiancé does not get jealous about her on-screen relationships.

"I never think about who could be my next screen boyfriend. It doesn't bother me if it's someone hot or not - or Max, because he's not the jealous type, thank God!" she added.

Keegan previously confessed that she hoped Tina's split from Graeme would see the barmaid "sow her wild oats" again.
