Coronation Street star Chris Fountain has predicted that his character Tommy Duckworth will have a wait on his hands before Tina McIntyre falls for his charms.

The pair have flirted since Tommy's arrival in Weatherfield earlier this year, but have not yet embarked on a relationship.

"Tina isn't giving it to him on a plate and he's kind of enjoying it," Fountain told TV Times. "They've tried a few dates, but it's all gone wrong. He's thinking, 'Hang on, is she actually interested or what?'"

Next week's episodes see events take a new twist for the pair when Tommy decides to make a surprise meal for Tina, who recently moved in with him and Tyrone.

However, Tommy may have missed his moment as local doctor Matt Carter (Oliver Mellor) tries his own luck with Tina on the same day.

"Tommy feels like he's stolen Tina from under his nose," Fountain continued. "While Tommy's cooking her a surprise meal, he's chatting her up in The Rovers. When Matt's around, Tommy is dead rude to him."

He added: "Tommy may have to lay off a bit while she's with Matt. I think it's going to be a slow burner."

Michelle Keegan, who plays Tina, recently admitted that she could not decide whether her character should pick Tommy or Matt.
