Coronation Street's Sophie Webster will leave girlfriend Sian Powers heartbroken by calling off plans for them to marry in a forthcoming storyline, a report has claimed.

The popular couple, played by Brooke Vincent and Sacha Parkinson, have been tipped to face a turbulent time in the months ahead as Sophie starts developing feelings for Dev Alahan's daughter Amber.

Sophie's first romantic encounter with Amber (Nikki Patel) will occur in October as they share a kiss on a night out while Sian is away on holiday, according to The Sun. It is thought that Amber spikes Sophie's drink with gin as she plans to make her move.

During the night out, things fall into place for Amber when she spots Sophie being hassled by a male punter who is trying to chat her up. Under the pretence of helping her friend to get rid of the unwanted admirer, Amber tells him that they're a couple and locks lips with Sophie.

However, events are expected to take a twist when drunk Sophie moves in for a second kiss with Amber shortly afterwards.

In the aftermath of the eventful night, Sophie has been tipped to ask Sian to marry her as she is plagued with guilt - but she later realises that Amber is the girl she wants and calls off plans for a Christmas civil partnership ceremony.

A Coronation Street source told the newspaper: "Sian will be devastated and will end up leaving Weatherfield for good."

Early details of the trio's storyline emerged in May when it was revealed that Parkinson will be departing Coronation Street later this year.
