Coronation Street's cast members are to have their pay reduced as the soap's Saturday omnibus will no longer air on ITV1, a report has revealed.

Stars of the Weatherfield show received letters informing them of the news just before Christmas, according to The Sun.

Coronation Street's weekend omnibus previously aired as part of ITV1's Saturday morning schedule, which gave cast members a sizeable repeat fee - thought to be 37.5% of their episode pay.

However, from this weekend, the omnibus will only air on digital channel ITV2 - meaning that the bonus fees will be smaller.

Reports suggest that Coronation Street's cast and representatives from their union Equity have held discussions with ITV over the matter.

A Coronation Street spokesperson told the newspaper: "We are in the process of talking to cast members whose pay may be affected by the ending of the omnibus repeat on ITV1.

"We expect to come to an arrangement in the next few weeks. In the meantime we have confirmed that we will continue with repeat fee payments."
