Michelle Keegan has predicted that Tommy Duckworth is the perfect partner for her character Tina McIntyre.

Speaking to Heat, the actress described Tommy as "the one" and praised the show's writers for the slowburning nature of their romance.

"I think Tommy is the one for her," she opined. "I'm glad the writers have done it in the way that they have and had Tommy in the show a year before he gets together with Tina.

"I think the audience have been able to make up their own minds about them and want them to be together."

Of the couple's upcoming kiss in the Rovers Return, the star added: "Tina has practically been through the whole cast now! And it's so not proper kissing. Not in the sense that it isn't a proper kiss, which it is.

"But in the sense that there are 30 people watching you and you're thinking about the way it's going to look on camera. It's a bit like, 'Ooh, just get on with it... When's dinner?'"

Barmaid Tina has previously dated Weatherfield bad boy David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), eccentric butcher Graeme Proctor (Craig Gazey) and - more recently - doctor Matt Carter (Oliver Mellor).

Chris Fountain, who plays her new love interest Tommy, first spoke of the couple's kissing scenes earlier this week.
