Coronation Street star Alison King has revealed that Peter Barlow's son Simon will tell a "terrible" lie in an upcoming episode.

The actress plays Carla Connor in the ITV1 soap, whose affair with Peter (Chris Gascoyne) is exposed this week when pictures of them kissing are shown at Frank Foster's rape trial.

"Carla can have fun with kids but shes not good at dealing with it when they hate her. In the coming weeks Simon tells a terrible lie but she handles it really well," King told The People.

"She is sad about hurting Leanne, she loves her, but Carla is ruthless and can't fight her feelings for Peter any longer. I've had a brilliant reaction from viewers after the rape storyline. The support has been amazing.

"It was a really emotional subject to deal with. Bernie, a lady from a rape centre, told me everything I needed to know and was at filming. We didn't want to sensationalise it, just make it as honest as possible."

King added that she was "thrilled" after being shortlisted for 'Best Serial Drama Performance' at the National Television Awards.
