Leanne has recently vowed to fight for Simon (Alex Bain) as she believes her estranged husband Peter (Chris Gascoyne) is an unfit father now that he is back on the booze.
To make matters worse, Peter is also facing serious trouble with the law after telling police that he killed Frank Foster. He made the claim to protect girlfriend Carla (Alison King), who was under suspicion of committing the crime.
Danson, asked whether she thinks Leanne is right to demand custody of Simon, told TV Times: "I do. When she finds out that Peter's drinking and he admits to killing Frank, she thinks she's the best person to look after Simon. And she's desperate to be a mum - it's the one thing she does really well."
"I think she'd use anything against Peter," the actress continued. "But she's no saint herself - she used to be a prostitute!"
Discussing Leanne's chances of winning the battle, Danson said: "There were a few episodes where Peter and Leanne talked about her adopting Simon, but I don't think it was followed through. In the real world she would probably have a fight on her hands, but we're talking soap here!"
Coronation Street continues on Thursday (March 15) at 8.30pm on ITV1.
