Alison King's character has mentioned her sibling in the show previously, but very little has been revealed about him.
ITV has confirmed that the street's new addition will "ruffle a few feathers" and "waste no time in setting his sights on some of Coronation Street's most eligible women".
A spokesperson for the soap said: "We are seeing lots of different actors over the next week or so. We have got some exciting storylines lined up for Carla's brother. He is a character the fans have been keen to meet for some time."
Carla has not had an easy time of it recently, having been accused of murdering Frank Foster. It has not been confirmed whether her brother will provide support or bring trouble for her.
The new character is due to join in summer 2012.
