The pair became engaged last month, and will soon begin making plans to tie the knot in June.
Coronation Street's producer Phil Collinson today (April 2) told This Morning that the ceremony will coincide with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
However, viewers will be left to wonder whether Rita (Barbara Knox) will make it down the aisle to marry Dennis (Philip Lowrie) when she is kidnapped on her big day.
Collinson explained: "[It's] very exciting - Rita and Dennis are going to get married on Jubilee Day. Or are they? There's lots of drama surrounding whether Rita's actually going to get to the church on time."
He continued: "We're doing a great big extravaganza, so we transmit two episodes on the Bank Holiday Monday. There's a great big street party, with the characters all dressed up as popstars through the 60 years of the Queen's reign.
"That's all happening at the same time as Rita's wedding, which is big and exciting. She gets kidnapped on her wedding day - I'll say no more than that."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays on ITV1.
