Coronation Street's Alison King has praised co-star Anne Kirkbride for her "madness" on set.

The 39-year-old, who plays Carla Connor, said that Deirdre Barlow actress Kirkbride holds court with the "funniest" stories.

She said of her fellow cast member: "During filming and waiting for filming it's pretty much madness. It's Annie Kirkbride, she's absolutely mad and when she's in. It's brilliant because you just hear the funniest tales and anecdotes."

Kirkbride, 57, is one of Corrie's longest-surviving stars, having been on the ITV serial since 1973.

Meanwhile, King revealed earlier this week that she was "absolutely as high as a kite" in the wake of her 'Best Actress' win at the British Soap Awards.

Coronation Street bagged seven gongs at Sunday's ceremony, tying with rival EastEnders.
