In an interview with The Sun, the 24-year-old said that he "wouldn't rule out dating a woman in her 30s".
Viewers have seen Heras - who plays 21-year-old Ryan Connor - embark on a relationship with older woman Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).
"I've tended to always go for older women and previous girlfriends have all been older," the actor told the paper.
"Not Tracy Barlow territory, but if I was single I wouldn't rule out dating a woman in her 30s. As long as you get along well, it's fine.
"Dating a cougar is every young man's dream and I've been in the position myself in the past where that was my dream.
"Having an older woman is a notch. It's that idea of, 'An older woman wants me because I'm mature'."
Heras has been with his model girlfriend for two years and said that he wasn't worried when told about the storyline between Ryan and Tracy. However, he revealed that 35-year-old Ford became nervous ahead of filming.
"Her main concern was, 'Oh, I'm so old, you're not going to want to do this'," he said. "But she shouldn't have worried about it.
"There was one eight-page scene in the Rovers recently and me and Kate had no lines - it was literally just kissing from start to finish.
"Altogether it was probably an hour's worth of kissing. We had chapped lips, dry mouths... We were just glued to each other - I've never kissed anyone for that long in my life. But I can't complain, there are worse jobs!
"Kate Ford is gorgeous anyway and she's such a nice person that even if she's being horrible to you in a scene, you can't help but love her."
The couple's age-gap relationship is due to take a more serious turn when Tracy tells Ryan and his mum Michelle (Kym Lomas) that she is pregnant.
Michelle is convinced that Tracy's pregnancy is a ploy to get back at her boyfriend Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), who she believes Tracy wants back. Ryan is shocked by the news, but decides to support and stand by Tracy, raising the baby with her.
"His mum says Tracy is playing games but he takes it upon himself to be mature," Heras explained. "After taking advice from Steve, he decides to propose to her in front of everybody in the Rovers."
Heras admitted he identified with Ryan's obstinate ways, but couldn't handle finding out he was going to be a father.
"I couldn't imagine being a dad right now," he said. "I'm far too immature.
"I'm sure I'd like to be a dad when I'm older but not for the time being and I certainly wouldn't be as calm as Ryan if it happened to me now - I'd be crying for weeks!"
